Larry A. Fickes, 72, of Fayetteville, PA, passed away unexpectedly Monday afternoon, May 23, 2022 in the emergency room of Chambersburg Hospital. Born June 28, 1949 in Chambersburg, he was a son of the late Ray W. and Hilda L. Shaffer Fickes. Larry was a 1967 graduate of the Chambersburg Area Senior High School and then served honorably with the US Army. He was employed for 25 years at the former Hess Manufacturing and then worked at Value Added Distributors prior to his retirement. Larry was a licensed pilot and enjoyed flying his airplane. He liked antique cars and NASCAR; was an avid Pittsburg Steelers and New York Yankees fan; and especially enjoyed taking a ride with his wife every evening to look for deer. Larry loved spending time with his best friends, Tinker, Charles Smith, and Buzzy Walters.
He is survived by his wife, Veronica A. “Bonnie” Cook Fickes whom he married on September 20, 1971; his sister, Darlene Hippensteel and her husband Dave of Shippensburg; and his sister-in-law, Carolyn Fickes of Fayetteville. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his son, Matthew A. “Matt” Fickes on July 18, 2006; three sisters, Ilo, Bonnie, and Penny; and seven brothers, Ray, Jay, Garnet, Roger, Ted, Rick, and Mike.
A viewing will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Interment will be private.
