Larry James Haas, 79, of Chambersburg, passed away on Saturday morning, June 10, 2023 at his home. Born November 2, 1943 in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Charles R. and Verna I. Gipe Haas.
Larry was a 1962 graduate of CASHS. He served in the US Army Veteran of the Vietnam War from 1964 – 1970. He was employed with Pet Ritz (Pet Incorporated) for 36 years and later with Menno Haven for seven years until his retirement in 2005. Larry was a member of Zion Reformed United Church of Christ in Chambersburg. He was a long-time and dedicated member of the American Legion Post 46 in Chambersburg for 54 years. He was also a member of the Marine Corps League, Landis-McCleaf Detachment in Chambersburg and AARP. He was an avid hunter who enjoyed time in the woods and loved the mountains.
Larry was kind hearted, gentle and compassionate towards everyone he came in contact with. He was loved and respected by many especially his family who he loved greatly and enjoyed spending time with. He was an avid sports fan of the Dallas Cowboys and enjoyed watching his grandson play baseball through the years.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 48 years, Faye Haas, whom he married on June 14, 1975; one daughter, Amy N. Haas (Troy Bitner) of Chambersburg; and one grandson, Dakota James Bitner (Delaney) of Mechanicsburg.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, June 19, 2023 in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Rev. Thomas Dunkle will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Sunday, June 18, 2023 and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home.
