Larry W. Stains, 74, of Chambersburg, PA, died Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at his home. Born December 5, 1939 in St. Thomas, PA, he was a son of the late Robert Stains, Sr. and Romaine Cutchall Carbaugh. He had been employed at the former Hennessey Products in Chambersburg for more than thirty years, retiring as Supervisor of maintenance and of the machine shop. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who also enjoyed motorcycles and league bowling for many years. A jack of all trades, there was nothing he couldn’t do and he was known as Mr. Fix-it.
Larry is survived by his loving wife, Joan Isenberger Stains, whom he married December 25, 1958; three children, Tawnya (Stains) Stake and husband Michael, Jeffery Stains and wife Sherry, and Kathy Stains Sechrist and husband Bill, all of Chambersburg; four grandchildren, Tiffany Stains, Jessica Stake, Andrew Stake, and Breanna Sechrist; four great-grandchildren, Dakota, Kaden, Tiana, and Trenton; and his sister, Judy Pike and her companion and Larry’s childhood friend, Sam Overcash of St. Thomas. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Stains, Jr.; and his step-father, Charles Carbaugh.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, December 30, 2013 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA with Rev. Warren Heintzelman officiating. Interment will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Sunday and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home.
