Larue Jones

Larue Jones, age 90, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Tuesday morning, July 5, 2016 at her home. Born June 23, 1926 in Waynesboro, she was a daughter of the late Merle and Dorothy Pentz Sheffler. She was a 1943 graduate of the Waynesboro Senior High School. A homemaker most of her life, Mrs. Jones was an avid fan of Washington Redskins football and enjoyed spending time sitting out on her porch watching birds. Her family was her world and she enjoyed keeping journals of all of her children’s lives throughout the years. Her husband, Fred Jones, whom she married March 12, 1945, preceded her in death on March 22, 1979.

She is survived by three daughters, Jennifer Merrihew and husband John of Colorado, Pamela Buckheit and husband Bill of Chambersburg, and Kim Barnhart and husband Tim of Chambersburg; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and her son-in-law, Roger DeShong of Chambersburg. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna DeShong, her sister, Lorraine Statler; and an infant brother, Merle Sheffler, Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, July 8, 2016 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Chaplain Daniel Summers will officiate. Interment will follow at Grindstone Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday and from 9:00-10:00 AM Friday at the funeral home.
