Laura Taylor

Laura L. “Mum” Taylor, age 93, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2016, in the Falling Spring Nursing Home. Born January 4, 1923, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Samuel L. and Lucy Hazell Westcott.
A 1944 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School, Mrs. Taylor went to work at Pennsylvania Capitol as a file clerk in the Revenue Department and later at the Chambersburg Hospital as a Supply Technician, retiring after 25 years of service. Mrs. Taylor loved the Lord and desired to serve him, as she was a member of John Wesley AME Zion Church, where she attended services for more than 70 years; most recently she attended Unity in Christ Church with her son and daughter-in-law. Mrs. Taylor was a Charter member of the Chambersburg Community Improvement Association and a member of the NAACP, Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #4, Carlisle, PA, Hunter Bailey American Legion Auxiliary #885, Chambersburg, PA, Church Women United, Chambersburg, PA, Willing Worker, and the Junior and Senior Choir. She also served as a missionary through her church. She enjoyed crafts and sewing. Most notably, she made her daughter-in-law’s wedding dress and made curtains for her son’s home.
Surviving is her son, LeeVester W. Taylor, Sr. (wife Dr. Yvonne D.) of Chambersburg, PA; three grandchildren, LeeVester W. Taylor, Jr. (wife Heidi) of Chambersburg, PA, Sharita Levonne Richardson (husband Richard)of Chambersburg, PA, and Kenneth Davis (wife Vera) of Indiana; three great-grandchildren, Malia Richardson, Jillian Taylor, and Micaiah White; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She will be dearly missed by her great friend, MiMi Shaffer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Levester “Son” Taylor on June 7, 2002, and four brothers, Luke, Alex, Leon, and Charles Westcott.
A Going Home Celebration will be offered in her Honor on Tuesday, June 14, 2016, at 11 AM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA, where Dr. Lois Watters will officiate. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service in the funeral home, where an O.E.S service will be held prior to the funeral service. Interment will follow the service in Lebanon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Missionary Board at Unity in Christ Church, 4301 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17202, where the contributions will be split with the missionary board at John Wesley AME Church.
