Lawrence R. “Ron” Black, age 75, of Chambersburg, PA passed away in his home on Saturday, January 12, 2013. Born July 20, 1937 in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Walter M. and Viola Pearl Rice Black.
Ron served his country in the Army National Guard from 1959 until 1965 as a tank operator. He was the co-owner and co-operator of Black Brothers Lumber until his retirement in 2003, however his retirement was full of activity back at the Mill helping his sons. His strong work ethic and love of being outside led him to operating the timber jack and driving the trucks in his retirement. Ron also enjoyed traveling, going out to restaurants, hunting, and hiking. A member of Crider’s United Brethren Church since birth, he enjoyed being chorister and singing solos and duets.
Surviving is his beloved wife of 52 years, Doris “Kay” Hill Black, whom he married on November 23, 1960; his sons, Rodney Brian Black (companion Janice McNew) of Chambersburg, PA and Nathaniel Ray Black (wife Heather Renee Black) of Chambersburg, PA; and four siblings, Vera Marie Amsley, Chester Carlton Black, Gerald Larry Black, and Joann Alberta Walck all of Chambersburg, PA.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at 1 PM at Crider’s United Brethren Church, 2380 Loudon Rd., Chambersburg, PA 17202; where Rev. Ron Cook will officiate. The family will receive friends in the church two hours prior to the service. Interment will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, where military honors will be provided by members of the Charles M. Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard.
