Professor Lawrence A. Bradshaw, age 83, of Fayetteville, PA, passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2015 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born September 23, 1932, in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Elwood Lee and Gertrude Dillard Bradshaw.
A U.S. Army veteran during the Korean Conflict, Mr. Bradshaw served his country honorably. A 1950 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School, Mr. Bradshaw went on to graduate from the former Shippensburg State College, Shippensburg, PA and later with his doctorate credentials (ABD) from American University, Washington, DC. Mr. Bradshaw taught English at Shippensburg University for 30 years, retiring in 1999. A gifted organist, Mr. Bradshaw was the parish organist at St. Andrew Episcopal Church in Shippensburg. He was also a member of the Organ Guild, Phi Sigma Pi, and Kiwanis Club. He was a Board member of the Franklin County Sunday School Association, guest teacher for the Caledonia Summer Sunday School Program, guest teacher for the radio Sunday School Program sponsored by the Sunday School Association, and taught Sunday School while stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He also served on the Chambersburg Hospital Board and other organizations.
Surviving is his beloved wife of 40 years, Mary Osgood Bradshaw, whom he married in 1974, a son, Lawrence Allen Bradshaw II (wife Samantha) of Phoenix, AZ, former daughter in law, Tiffany Bradshaw, step granddaughter, Kaylie Nikole Duran, grandchildren, Ryland Allen and Madison Elise Bradshaw, sister, Bettie Rankin and niece, Renee Rankin of Chambersburg, PA, and many other nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Ronald E. Bradshaw of Chambersburg, PA.
He was a devoted, loving, and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He demonstrated God’s love by his strong desire to help others.
Funeral service will be held to honor Mr. Bradshaw on Wednesday, July 1, 2015, at 11 AM at St. Andrew Episcopal Church, 206 E. Burd St., Shippensburg, PA 17257, where Father Ted Babcock and Pastor Lawrence Metzler will officiate. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 30, 2015, from 2-4 PM and 6-9 PM in the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the American Heart Association, Franklin/Fulton Division, 1019 Wormleysburg, PA 17043 or to St. Andrew Episcopal Church, 206 E. Burd St., Shippensburg, PA 17257 or to The Chambersburg First Church of God, 2230 Grand Point Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202.
