Leah J. Smith, 50, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Monday, January 18, 2021 at her home. Born January 28, 1970 in York, she was the daughter of Rev. Robert VanNatta of Claysburg and Betty Ross McClure of Chambersburg. She was a 1988 graduate of the James Buchanan High School and earned an Associate Degree in accounting from Hagerstown Business College. She was currently employed by the Borough of Chambersburg and had previously worked at St. John’s United Church of Christ, Ocker and Associates, Penn State Mont Alto, H&R Block and F&M Trust Co. Leah was a member of The Faith Church of God Harbor Light where she played the piano and organ and assisted with the bookkeeping. She was currently serving on the Board of the Scotland Community Center where she had at one time served as Treasurer. She volunteered with the re-enactment of the Battle of Gettysburg and was a member of Central Mountain ATVs.
Leah is survived by her husband, Gary L. Smith, Sr., whom she married June 30, 1990; three children, Gary L. Smith, Jr., Modena K. Smith (Danny Lopez), and Steven J. Smith (Alicia Lutes), all of Chambersburg; four grandchildren, Izaiah, Khari, Xavier, and Kenton; her brother, Aaron VanNatta of Chambersburg; and two half-brothers, Robert T. VanNatta, Jr. and Arthur H. VanNatta. She was preceded in death by her step-father, Robert McClure.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at The Faith Church of God Harbor Light, 537 Hood Street, Chambersburg, PA. Pastor Andy Ficks will officiate. Interment will follow at Salem cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until services begin at 1:00 PM Tuesday at the church.
