Lee Edward Martin, 78, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away April 18, 2018 at Menno Haven in Chambersburg. He was born November 15, 1939 to the late Raymond and Mabel Martin. Lee was a building contractor in the Hagerstown area and after retiring from construction became a turkey farmer in Greencastle, PA. Throughout his life and in his retirement he found great joy in combining his expertise of building and organizational skills in volunteering his time as a unit leader with Mennonite Disaster Service. He worked at re-building homes in many different states where natural disasters had destroyed properties. In more recent years he, along with his wife, volunteered and organized winter maintenance projects at Camp Gilead in Polk City, FL. Lee was also instrumental in the formation of Shalom Christian Academy. He served on the Board of Directors and participated in the building process of the school. Lee loved to camp, and served on the Board at Cove Valley Christian Youth Camp. He enjoyed volunteering at BookSavers in Hagerstown, and was also a lifetime member of the Longmeadow Volunteer Fire Company. He was a member of Northside Mennonite Church, Hagerstown, MD.
Lee is survived by his wife, Mary Lois (Lehman) Martin, whom he married October 10, 1959; his children, Raedella (Dean) Martin of McConnellsburg, PA, Elton (Mary Beth) Martin of Hagerstown, MD, Icilda (Gary) Nelson of Huntersville, NC, Laundell (Heather) Martin of Greencastle, PA, and Ardell (Michele) Martin of Marion, PA; fourteen grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Merle Martin, Larry Martin, Duane Martin, Ruth Eby, and Alice Martin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Wendell Martin and a brother, Nevin Martin.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, April 22, 2018 from 2:00-3:30 PM at Salem Ridge Community Church, 441 Pensinger Road, Greencastle, PA. A memorial service will then follow at 4:00 PM.
