Lennard C. Staley, 74, of South Mountain, PA, passed away Saturday evening, January 16, 2016 in the Waynesboro Hospital. Born July 12, 1941 in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Clinton J. and Louise A. Kauffman Staley. Lennard was a 1960 graduate of the former Quincy High School and attended numerous classes at Shippensburg University. An Industrial Engineer for more than thirty years, he completed his machinist trade apprenticeship at Landis Tool in Waynesboro and then worked for two years at Grove Manufacturing. He was employed for fifteen years with ITT, including five years in Chicago and a short time in Portugal. Lennard retired from the South Mountain Restoration Center in 1999 where he was employed as a Certified Nursing Assistant. For a number of years he repaired sewing machines at Sisto’s Quilting Studio in Frederick, MD and also enjoyed donating his time and talents to charities including Operation Christmas Child. He was a member and former Deacon of the South Mountain Bible Church where he participated in the church’s mission trip to Brazil in 2007. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and spending time at his cabin near Emporium, PA.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn C. Burcham Staley, whom he married July 30, 1960; three children, Julie K. Smith of Quincy, Daniel W. Staley of South Mountain, Eric L. Staley and wife Jeanette of South Mountain, and former daughter-in-law, Debra Arndt; five grandchildren, Emily K. Staley, Richard Bolinger, Rebecca Naugle, Talon Morrill, and Branden Riley; three great-grandchildren, Annika, Mya, and Harlan, and close friend, Ronald Sisto. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Patricia; a son, Lennard Staley, II in 2003; and his son-in-law, Tim Smith in July of 2015.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday, January 21, 2016 at South Mountain Bible Church with Rev. William Gray officiating. Interment will follow at Strang’s Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:00 AM until service begin at 10:30 AM Thursday at the church.
