Leon Ray Bierbower passed away Saturday evening, December 19, 2020 at his home in Chambersburg. He was born April 25, 1935 in Saville Township, Perry County. He was the son of the late Raymond and Sallie Light Bierbower. He served in the United States Army, and was a member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees. He was a member of the Chambersburg Road Runners Club and Perry County Road Runners Club. He was a member of LifePoint Church in Chambersburg.
Surviving are his wife, Judy Miller Bierbower, whom he married on Mother’s Day, May 8, 1960; a son, Allen (Karen) Bierbower; a daughter, Amy Sneath; three grandchildren, Sarah and Steven Bierbower, and Madison Sneath. He was preceded in death by one brother; seven half-brothers; and one half- sister.
He worked at Macky Vending in Harrisburg, and Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg, retiring in 1993. Leon enjoyed running. He ran the Boston Marathon twice and the JFK 50 miler 12 times. He volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and went on mission trips to the Dominican Republic and other mission trips in the United States.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Leon’s birthday, Sunday April 25, 2021 at 3:00 PM at Lifepoint Church, 339 Lincoln Way East, Chambersburg, PA.
The family is requesting, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Habitat for Humanity of Franklin County, 1502 Lincoln Way East, Chambersburg, PA 17202 or to the Tim and Susan Cook Memorial Scholarship Fund at Chambersburg Area Senior High School.
