Leona Mae Appleby, 84, of St. Thomas, passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born April 12, 1932 in Mount Union, PA, she was the daughter of the late Leslie and Beulah C. Stoner Walker. Her husband, James E. Appleby, Sr., preceded her in death on February 27, 2013.
Leona was employed as a cafeteria worker at the Tuscarora School District until her retirement in 1980. She enjoyed crocheting and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by seven children, Steve and wife Rebecca of Allentown, PA, Brenda Appleby of Greensboro, NC, Rodney Appleby of Orrstown, Terry Appleby and wife Janet of St. Thomas, James Appleby, Jr. of Chambersburg, Donald Appleby of Randleman, NC, and Charles Appleby of St. Thomas. Leona is also survived by her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Aside from her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by two sons, Jerry and Jeffrey Appleby and two brothers, Leslie and Earl Walker.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 5327 Warm Spring Road, Williamson, PA. Pastor Alan R. Wilson will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church at the above address.
