Leona L. “Toni” Butts, 90, of Ft. Loudon, PA, went home to be with her Lord Tuesday afternoon, January 28, 2014 at her home. Born March 18, 1923 in Clarinda, Iowa, she was a daughter of the late Bruce Albert and Kathryn Jane Kirk Burd. She was a graduate of the former Dry Run High School and was employed for many years at Letterkenny Army Depot. In her later years she worked as a Nurse’s Aide at Menno Haven. She owned and operated Toni’s Doll Hospital from her home for many years. She was a charter member of the Chambersburg Bible Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher and was active with the children’s programs. Her hobbies included flower gardening, post card collecting, and researching her family history. She enjoyed doll repair and restoration as well as sewing doll clothing. Toni enjoyed many bus trips with AARP and NARFE. She was devoted to her grandchildren and liked spending time visiting with her sisters. Her husband, Elmer R. Butts, preceded her in death on February 22, 1984.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna Rae Butts Aird Small and husband George of Ft. Loudon; two grandchildren, Shawn Kirk Small and wife Bunny of Sagle, Idaho, and Shelia J. Cooper and husband George of Chambersburg; and her great-granddaughter, Maggie Kirk Cooper of Chambersburg. She is also survived by two sisters, Helen M. Houpt of Chambersburg and Mary K. Hoover of Altoona; and will be missed by her grand-puppies, Sarah and Jacob. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin and Robert Burd; and three sisters, Evelyn Parson, Ruth Quamme, and Maxine Baker.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, February 3, 2014 at Chambersburg Bible Church, 810 Orchard Drive, Chambersburg, PA with Rev. Gary Yoder officiating. The family will receive friends from 10-11:00 AM Monday at the church. Interment will be at 2:00 PM at Stenger Hill Cemetery in Ft. Loudon.
