Leona B. McFadden Hollaway, 93, of Chambersburg, PA, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, July 10, 2017 at Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born February 12, 1924 in Greencastle, she was a daughter of the late John P. and Eva Blair McFadden. Mrs. Hollaway was a 1942 graduate of the former Greencastle High School where she played the violin and was a member of the basketball team. She then went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics from Juniata College. A homemaker most of her life, she had worked for a short period of time with Government Food Services at the Pentagon immediately following graduation from college. She was an active member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church where she sang with the choir and was a member of WELCA. She enjoyed gardening, walking, and spending time with her family. Her husband, Charles B. Hollaway, preceded her in death on June 1, 1982.
A loving and dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother, she will be greatly missed by those who loved her including her three children, Ruth Hollaway of Chambersburg, John Hollaway (Victoria) of Chambersburg, and Heidi Crawford (Douglas) of York; grandchildren Ty Hollaway of Bozeman, MT and Chenin Hollaway (Doug Thomas); and great-grandson, Nowah Hollaway, all of Hustontown. She will always be remembered for her beautiful smile and her kind, gentle heart. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her sister, Ruby McFadden.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, July 15, 2017 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Sharon Kelly, PhD. will officiate. Interment will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 9:30-10:30 AM Saturday at the church.
