Leona Shaffer

Leona M. (Walters) Shaffer, 85, of Chambersburg, PA and formerly of Marion, PA passed away peacefully in her sleep, Friday, May 7, 2021 in her daughter’s home where she had resided for the last four years. Born May 18, 1935 in St. Lawrence, PA she was the daughter of the late Leo S. and Henrietta E. (Holtz) Walters.

She attended Patton High School in Patton, PA. Leona was employed on the pie line at PET Ritz, Inc., Chambersburg, PA. She retired after many years there. She was a former member of the VFW Post 6139 Ladies Auxiliary, Greencastle, PA. Leona enjoyed going on trips with her family.

She is survived by a daughter, Debra Walck and husband Lester of Chambersburg; a son, Frederick Shaffer of Marion; and two grandchildren, Matt Ambrose and his girlfriend Sasha and her children of Marion and Heather Kundus and her finance Dave of Mars, PA; seven siblings, Rita Gongloff, Virginia Masi, Helen Roush, Leo Walters, Constance Colvin, Regis Walters and Jean Raker; an aunt, Elverda Holtz; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Ellis “Fred” Shaffer, who she married July 13, 1957. Mr. Shaffer passed away November 11, 2013. She is also preceded in death by four siblings, William Walters, Patricia Pfeister, Grace Brammer and Dolly Smith.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 A.M., Monday, May 17, 2021 in the Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 320 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg, PA with Rev. Richard Lyons officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., Sunday evening in the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202.
