Leonard E. “Butch” “Lenny” Gearhart, age 69, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Sunday, May 22, 2016, at his home, with his family by his side. Born October 12, 1946, in Chambersburg, Butch is the son of Catherine E. “Kitty” Nixon Gearhart and the late Guy E. Gearhart.
Butch was a 1964 graduate of the Chambersburg Area Senior High School. He went on to serve in the U.S. Army Reserves, and at Letterkenny Army Depot, where he worked in ammunition for 27 years, retiring in 2000. Butch was a member of the Letterkenny Rod and Gun Club. An avid outdoorsman, Butch enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, being outdoors, and telling everyone around him the stories that go hand in hand with being an outdoorsman.
The “Rock” of his family, he will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, of 47 years, Catherine Rogers Gearhart, whom he married on December 14, 1968; his cherished daughters, Katherine S. Schanzenbacher (husband Eric) and Sherrie L. Brown (husband Tom); loving grandchildren, Eric II, Nikolas, and Heidi Schanzenbacher, Heather Sanders, and Jace Brown; adored great-grandson, Mason Schanzenbacher; brother, Terry Gearhart (wife Sue); and his extended family and all his many friends.
Funeral services will be held to honor Butch’s life on Thursday, May 26, 2016, at 2 PM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA, where Pastor Mike Sanders, Rev. Garry Culler, and Pastor Conroy Lewis will officiate. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service in the funeral home on Thursday. Interment will follow the service in Parklawns Memorial Gardens.
