Leota G. Burkholder, 98, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Wednesday morning, October 3, 2018 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born November 22, 1919 in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late Glenn M. and Ethel Baer Pugh. Mr. and Mrs. Burkholder were self-employed farmers for many years. She later retired from Martin’s Bakery in Chambersburg after more than twenty-five years of service. She was the second employee that the Martin family hired upon starting the bakery on Edgar Avenue in Chambersburg. She was a member of the Chambersburg Church of the Brethren where she had taught Sunday school and was active with the Loving Hearts. Mrs. Burkholder enjoyed crocheting, working in her flower beds, and spending time with her family. Her husband, David H. Burkholder, whom she married April 5, 1941, preceded her in death on November 14, 2006.
She is survived by two daughters, Janet M. Musser and husband Mervin, Wilma J. LaRose; and a son, Donald D. Burkholder, all of Chambersburg. Also surviving are five granddaughters; one grandson; eleven great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Evelyn Crider and husband Virgil of St. Thomas. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter; and three brothers, Melvin, Galen, and Carl Pugh.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, October 6, 2018 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Pastor Joel Nogle will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:00-10:00 AM Saturday at the funeral home.
