LeRoy W. Fleagle, Sr., age 90, Fayetteville, PA, passed away at home unexpectedly on Monday, September 17, 2018. Born October 31, 1927, in Metal, PA, he was a son of the late Marietta Susan Fleagle and Elmer E. North.
A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Fleagle served honorably during WWII. He worked at various locations for the U.S. Government; beginning at Letterkenny Army Depot in Security, then he was transferred to the 10th Air Force in Great Falls, MT, then to Richards Gebauer AFB in Kansas City, MO, and Federal Aviation Administration in MO and to Salt Lake City, UT. He retired at Fort Polk LA, as advisor on troop support items and aviation to the commanding officer, as well as reserve unites. And National Guard Units in LA and MS. Among the many schools his work led him too; he went to the F.A.A Academy in Oklahoma City on Navigation Aids for F.A.A. While living in PA, Mr. Fleagle worked 16 years, for the PA Game commission in law enforcement and other duties. He attended the PA Game Commission Ross Leffer school of Conservation. After retirement, he worked in LA for the Sheriff’s Department. Mr. Fleagle entered the Christopher Diehl Lodge # 19 in Magna, UT; he was also a member of the Scottish Rite, Shrine, York Rite, and the Eastern Star, which he joined with his wife, Alice. He enjoyed car racing, rock hunting, gardening, and helping people with electrical problems.
Surviving are two sons, LeRoy W. “Skip” Fleagle, Jr. (wife Betty) of Scotland, PA and Monte Ray Fleagle (Demaris) of AZ; seven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, four great great-grandchildren; and two siblings, Frank North of West Virginia and Nellie Leedy of Fannettsburg, PA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Alice C. Cordell Fleagle in 2012 and a brother Eddie W. North.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2018, 10 AM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA, where Pastor William “Bill” McCloskey will officiate. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 21, 2018, from 6 – 8 PM and one hour prior to the service on Saturday in the funeral home. Interment will follow the service in Lincoln Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Shriner’s Hospital, 3100 Samford Ave., Shreveport, LA 71103.
