Lester H. “Bud” Brookens, age 83, of Fayetteville, PA, passed away on Monday, June 30, 2014 at Falling Spring Nursing and Rehab Center. Born January 11, 1931 in Waynesboro, PA, he was the son of the late Herbert H. and Jeannien Brookens.
Bud worked as a heavy equipment operator and school bus driver for the Chambersburg Area School District for over 22 years. He was a member of the Moose Lodge 842 in Chambersburg and a member of the NRA. An avid outdoorsman, Bud enjoyed hunting, especially groundhog hunting, where he rarely missed. In his younger years, he enjoyed building hot rods and racing them at various area race tracks.
Surviving is his devoted friend and caretaker, Carolyn Fickes, two brothers-in-law, Bob Conner (wife Shirley) and Butch Conner (Paulette); along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia L. Conner Brookens in 1993.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 7, 2014 at 11:30 AM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA; where Rev. Paul B. Baker will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services in the funeral home on Monday. Interment will follow the service in Lincoln Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the charity of one’s choice.
