Lester W. Hammond, Jr., age 72, of Duncannon, PA, passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2019, at UPMC Pinnacle West Shore Hospital. Born June 27, 1947, in Dry Run, PA, he was the son of the late Lester W. Hammond, Sr. and Nettie Doyle Hammond.
Mr. Hammond was a 1965 graduate of the Fannett-Metal High School; he went on to serve honorably in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict. He worked as a Certified Nurse’s Aide at the Harrisburg State Hospital for a number of years, where he later retired. He was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church in Duncannon, PA. Mr. Hammond enjoyed horseback riding, kayaking, going to the beach, the ocean, and bird watching, especially watching the bald Eagle flying over the river.
Surviving are two sons, Lester W. “Chuck” Hammond III (Companion Jessica Shoemaker) of Dry Run, PA and Keith F. Hammond (wife Missy) of Concord, PA; three grandchildren, Courntney Campbell (husband Brian), Kaitelyn Hammond and Kolby Hammond; two great-grandchildren, Bryce and Cole Campbell; and two siblings, Virginia Yocum of Willow Hill, PA and Brenda Fleming of Chambersburg, PA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings.
A Memorial service will be held on Monday, November 25, 2019, at 11 AM at the Agett-Geisel Funeral Home, 18875 Main St., Dry Run, PA, where Rev. Marlin A. “Butch” Neil will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
