Lester B. Shockey, Jr., 62, of Fayetteville, PA, passed away Monday, July 22, 2013 at Chambersburg Hospital. Born January 28, 1951 in Connellsville, PA, he was the son of the late Lester B. and Beulah F. McCabe Shockey. A US Air Force veteran, Lester was employed throughout his lifetime by the US Government, and was last employed as an IT Specialist at the Department of Justice. He was a member of Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW and served as Membership Director of the Penn National Homeowner’s Association. He enjoyed science, specifically astronomy, chemistry, and physics; history, especially the Revolutionary War and visits to Colonial Williamsburg, and he loved Halloween and scaring the kids who were trick-or-treating. Lester was a photographer for many years, prior to digital photography; was an avid golfer; collected Santa and Department 56 figurines; and enjoyed model railroading. He liked to sing Karaoke and participated in the Pennsylvania Senior Idol competition. He also ran Karaoke Night for the Penn National Homeowner’s Association.
He is survived by his wife, Janice A. Krysztofiak Shockey; his daughter, Kelly Shockey-Ellis and husband Peter of Elkridge, MD; his son, Christopher Shockey and companion Cheryl Jones of Elkridge, MD; and two sisters, Jeannie Stone of Pittsville, MD and Shirley Semone of Rehobeth, DE.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, July 26, 2013 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA with Rev. Paul B. Baker officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends following the service. Members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard will conduct military honors in the funeral home parking lot immediately following the service.
