Lester E. “Gene” Walls, 71, of St. Thomas, PA, passed away Sunday, December 24, 2017 at Lifecare Hospital in Mechanicsburg. Born February 17, 1946 in Chambersburg, he was a son of Beryl Horn Walls of St. Thomas and the late Lester I. Walls. Gene owned and operated Walls Excavating and Demolition for nearly fifty years, starting the business in 1968. Early in his life he was employed at Valley Quarries in Chambersburg and at Pennsylvania Glass and Sand in Mill Creek, PA. He was a former member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #842 and was a life member of the Potomac Fish and Game Club and the St. Thomas Sportsman’s Club. He enjoyed bowling, skiing, soccer, hunting, and racing with the #85 Crew.
He is survived by his fiancé, Kay McBeth of St. Thomas; four children, Kevin L. Delancey (Melissa) of Murraysville, Danny E. Walls (Traci) of Edenville, Tina W. Matthews of Mechanicsburg, and Denver R. Walls of St. Thomas; five grandchildren, Justin and John Delancey, Jacob Matthews, Wesley and Nathan Walls; two brothers, James L. Walls (Julia) of St. Thomas and Ronald Walls (Donna) of St. Thomas; three sisters, Fay Peters (Crawford) of St. Thomas, Janet Peterson of Florida, and Nancy Berger (Kevin) of Florida; and his former wives, Beverly Gorman and Carolyn Regan.
A memorial service to celebrate Gene’s life will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, December 30, 2017 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Harold E. Yeager will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Friday and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
