Letha Koontz

Letha F. Koontz, 100, a resident at Menno Haven and formerly of 551 Elm Avenue, Chambersburg, PA, passed away Saturday evening, January 21, 2012 at the nursing home. Born April 28, 1911 in Everett, PA, she was a daughter of the late Garfield Cleveland and Betty Ann Goodrich Mills. Mrs. Koontz retired from the Chambersburg Hospital where she had been employed in the dietary department. She was a member of The Open Door Church, the Jolly Sixties, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees #1063, all in Chambersburg. Her hobbies included traveling, cooking, and baking. Her husband, Albert W. Koontz, preceded her in death in 1971.

She is survived by four children, Betty M. Horton and husband Gene of Mifflintown, Donald A. Koontz of Shippensburg, Robert W. Koontz and wife Shirley of Chambersburg, and Carole A. Evans and husband Ronald of Chambersburg; eight grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Warren Mills; a sister, Ava Mills; a grandson, Brad Evans; and a daughter-in-law, Lois Koontz.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 25, 2012 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Mike Sanders will officiate. Interment will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
