Lillian Hay Kaufman, 80, of Chambersburg, passed away on January 28, 2015 in the Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Milford Township, Somerset County, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late James O. Hay and Hazel Speicher Hay of Rockwood, Pennsylvania. A registered nurse, Mrs. Kaufman enjoyed her profession serving at Somerset Community Hospital for five years and Menno Haven Retirement Communities for 23 years. She was a graduate of Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1954.
She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, completing needlework and sewing projects, attending musical events, creating flower gardens, collecting recipes and preparing family meals. Mrs. Kaufman was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, a focal point of her life, where she served as a pre-school teacher and on the Ladies' Auxiliary.
Surviving is her beloved husband of 58 years, Ray L. Kaufman, whom she married March 30, 1956; her children, Susan K. Doll (wife of Gary S. Doll) of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; Jane E. Markmann (wife of Robert G. Markmann) of Gap, Pennsylvania; three grandchildren, Ryan and Eric Doll and Alison Markmann; one brother, Morris Hay of Morris, Illinois; and one sister, Rose Marie Keichel of Kirkland, Ohio. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, James O. Hay and Dean S. Hay and a sister, Miriam Hay.
A service of Christian Burial led by Dr. Neal Hively and The Reverend Tara Magoon will be offered on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 11:00 A. M. at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 26 West Commerce Street, Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow the service in Norland Cemetery.
