Lois Catherine Atherton, age 89, of Chambersburg, PA, went to be with her Lord and Savior in the evening hours of Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born September 13, 1925 in Huntingdon, PA, she was a daughter of the late George E. and Roxanna Lynn Fisher.
Lois was a graduate of Huntingdon High School. In her early years she loved working with flowers in the summer. She was employed as a dietician at South Mountain Restoration Center and Regency Thermographers in Waynesboro, PA. She attended Chambersburg First Church of God and enjoyed designing and making hand-stitched quilts. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and loved them all equally.
Lois is survived by four children, Jeannie Hess Socks of Chambersburg, Dennis E. Hess (wife Lisa) of St. Thomas, Ricky E. Smith of Three Springs, PA, and Ronald W. Hess of Nevada; two step-children, Josephine Diffenderfer of Chambersburg, and Brenda Snider of Mechanicsburg; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren; numerous step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; three siblings, Loretta Ardrey of Vineland, NJ, Verna Bowman of Mt. Union, PA, and Eugene Fisher (wife Anna Mae) of Alabama; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Atherton; a son, Kenny Hess; granddaughter, Brittany Hare; and a sister, Violet Riscol.
A funeral service to honor Lois’s life will be held at 11:30 AM on Monday, March 23, 2015 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Jerry Timbrook will officiate. Interment will be held Monday afternoon in Entriken Cemetery, Huntingdon County, PA at 3:00 PM. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM on Sunday, March 22, 2015 and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home.
