Lois M. Black, 95, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Friday, October 27, 2023 at Brookview Health Care Center at Menno Haven. Born October 28, 1927 in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Harry D. Black, Sr. and Rhoda M. Buterbaugh Black. She was a 1945 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School and went to work at United Telephone which later became Sprint, where she was employed as a telephone operator for 45 years prior to her retirement. She was a life member of the Chambersburg Church of the Brethren. Lois loved to travel with her family and friends including trips out west with her brothers. She enjoyed shopping, Friday trips to Pizza Hut, taking care of her lawn, and attending drum and bugle corps performances.
She is survived by two sisters-in-laws, Virginia “Ginger” Black and Jean Black, both of Chambersburg; nieces Kim Kegerreis (Jody) and Michelle Black, all of Chambersburg; nephew Brett Black (Lisa) of Shippensburg; great-nieces Katie Winner (Wesley) of Littlestown, Lauren Elyard (Spencer) of Lusby, MD, and Emily Black of Morgantown, WV; great-great-niece Linnea Winner; and great-great-nephew, Owen Elyard.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Harry D. Black, Jr. and Jay E. Black.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, November 2, 2023 at Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Elizabeth Thorpe will officiate.
