Lonny M. Bakner, 51, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away unexpectedly Friday evening, May 22, 2015. Born April 9, 1964 in Chambersburg, he was the son of Mern “Buddy” and Orpha Rock Bakner of Chambersburg. He was a 1982 graduate of the Chambersburg Area Senior High School and was employed for the past ten years at Kline’s Grocery in Shady Grove, PA. He had previously been employed for many years at the former Kenny’s Market in Fayetteville. Lonny was a member of Five Forks Brethren In Christ Church where he served as a Deacon. A member of Waynesboro Fish and Game, he was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed golfing and supporting Georgetown Hoya basketball.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Penny Jo Carl Bakner, whom he married June 2, 1990; his daughter, Mary C. Bakner and fiancé Brandon Yeager; two sisters, Renee Sharpe (husband Jack) and Michelle Verdier (husband Jim) all of Chambersburg; his Mother and Father-in-law, James Franklin and Cherle D. Carl, of Waynesboro; two nieces and one nephew of Chambersburg.
Lonny loved people and cherished his family and friends. He also spent a great deal of time with the residents and staff of Falling Spring Nursing Home. He will be greatly missed by all including his faithful walking companion, his dog Lily.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday, May 28, 2015 at Five Forks Brethren In Christ Church, Waynesboro, PA with Rev. Ray Kipe officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-9:00 PM Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church.
