Louise I. Burkholder, 91, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Monday afternoon, March 31, 2014 at Menno Haven, where she resided for the past twenty-four years. Born November 9, 1922 in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin and Grace Gossard Perry. Mrs. Burkholder was a 1940 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School and was employed as a secretary at the former Stanley Company and at Letterkenny Army Depot prior to her retirement. She was an active member of St. John’s United Church of Christ and was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed walking, reading, especially her Bible, and spending time with her family. She was an avid Penn State fan. Her husband, G. Robert Burkholder, whom she married August 29, 1943, preceded her in death on May 25, 1990.
Mrs. Burkholder is survived by three daughters, Connie Rae Evans of Chambersburg, Sharon “Shari” Louise Burkholder of York Haven, and Roberta “Bobbie” L. Burkholder of Chambersburg; three grandchildren, Amy Evans Busa and husband Tom of Zeeland, MI, Rebecca “Becky” Evans Bordlemay of Ithaca, NY, and Troy Allen Gadberry and wife Sandy of Mountville, PA; and eight great-grandchildren, Adam, Julie, and Pete Busa, Emily, Evan, and Ellie Bordlemay, and Noah and Abby Gadberry. The last of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by seven siblings, Janet, Chester, Catherine, Kenneth, Earl, Benjamin, and Robert.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, April 5, 2014 at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 1811 Lincoln Way East, Chambersburg, PA with Rev. Mark Ruzicka officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 PM Saturday at the church. Private interment will be in Lincoln Cemetery.
