Lynn D. Etter, age 85, of Shippensburg, PA, passed away unexpectedly at the Chambersburg Hospital on Thursday, February 4, 2016. Born May 30, 1931, in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Orval C. and Helen A. Brandt Etter.
A 1948 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School, Mr. Etter went on to follow in his family’s footsteps and became a lifelong farmer. Mr. Etter was a lifetime member of the Scotland United Methodist Church and a member of the PA Farm Bureau. In addition to farming, he was a man of many talents, anything that involved using your hands, he could do, assemble, or fix; i.e. tinkering. He enjoyed watching sports, especially following the Chambersburg Trojan Sports, and farming.
Surviving is his wife of 52 years, Mary W. Mellott Etter, whom he married on April 19, 1963; four children, Barbara J. Benedict (husband Scott) of Aurora, OR, Darl L. Etter of Elizabeth City, NC, Alan O. Etter (wife Cindy) of Chambersburg, PA, and Melanie S. Paisley of Chambersburg, PA; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at 11:30 AM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA; where Pastor Bruce Gowe will officiate. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 9 from 6 – 8 PM and one hour prior to the service in the funeral home on Wednesday. Interment will follow the service in Norland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the Scotland United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 511, Scotland, PA 17254.
