M. Alvin Snider

M. Alvin Snider, age 86, of Chambersburg, PA, went Home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 15, 2017, from the Shook Home, Chambersburg. Born on April 9, 1931, in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Mark H. and Emily Dubbs Snider.
A 1949 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School, Alvin went on to serve honorably in the U.S. Army, stationed in Salzburg, Austria. He worked his entire career as a mechanic and truck driver for McCleary Oil Company, retiring in 1996. A lifelong member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Chambersburg, Alvin served his church in many capacities, including Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, and Youth Group Leader. He also served on the Board of Directors for the District 3 Sunday School Association.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, V. Almeda Rice Snider, whom he married June 6, 1953; three children, Loraine J. Whorley (husband Craig) of Chambersburg, Loretta A. Martin (husband Marcus) of Mercersburg, and Rodney L. Snider (wife Norma) of Chambersburg, a sister, Mary Jane Stone of Greencastle; seven grandchildren, Matthew Martin, Scott Whorley, Trina Horn, Melinda Benedick, Brett Whorley, Kara Boodhansingh, and Toby Snider; and eleven great grandchildren, Konner Whorley, Mitchell Martin, Lyla Whorley, Mason Martin, Kellen Whorley, Shane Horn, Eli Horn, Deegan Benedick, Noah Boodhansingh, Avery Whorley, and Liam Boodhansingh. Aside from his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Paul.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, April 20, in the St. John’s United Methodist Church, 3001 Warm Spring Road Chambersburg, PA 17202, with Pastor Daniel Wilt officiating. Interment will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Wednesday in the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road Chambersburg, and one hour prior to the service in the church on Thursday.
