M. Florence “Timmie” Thompson, 97, a resident of the Penn Hall Nursing Center in Chambersburg, passed away Friday, February 12, 2016 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born April 7, 1918 in Guilford Township, she was a daughter of the late George Edward and Blanche Spangler Clugston and was raised by John R. Rennecker and his wife Maude Clugston Rennecker. Mrs. Thompson was married to Ira S. Thompson, Jr. on April 20, 1935 and he preceded her in death on April 11, 1982. She was a homemaker most of her life and was the oldest living member of Solomon’s United Church of Christ. Mrs. Thompson was an avid reader.
She is survived by her three children; her daughter Elaine McCleary and husband Paul of Chambersburg; her son I. Alan Thompson and wife LaRetta of Homosassa, FL; and her daughter Gerilyn Rife and husband John William of Chambersburg. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Timothy McCleary of Needham, MA, Todd McCleary of Chambersburg, Nicole Small of Fannettsburg, Holly Whittel of Ballston Spa, NY, Jill and Erin Thompson of Anna, TX, Yvette Rife of Greencastle, and Jason Rife of Chambersburg; and five great-grandchildren, Molly and Mandy McCleary, Evan Small, Chris Whittel, and Jakob Rife. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by six brothers, and five sisters. She was the last of her immediate family.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, February 18, 2016 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Peter Emig will officiate. Interment will follow at Grindstone Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 AM Thursday at the funeral home.
