M. Lee Hartzok, age 89, of Chambersburg, PA passed away on Saturday morning, February 22, 2014. Born March 19, 1924 in Kyrock, KY, he was a son of the late Melvin E. and Ethel Garns Hartzok.

A 1942 graduate of Chambersburg High School, Lee was vice president of his senior class. He then began his career as an owner/operator of several businesses including the NEHI Bottling Company of Chambersburg and, more notably, the Southern Welding Supply Company, which he sold in 1981. Early in his life he was elected tax collector of Guilford Township and served for eight years. He was a past president of the Chambersburg Chamber of Commerce, YMCA, SCORE, Children’s Aid Society, South Mountain Restoration Center, Shook Home, and the Chambersburg Noontime Lions Club. He served in various capacities for SCCAP, Franklin County Children’s Aid Society, numerous local and state agencies for business and community development as well as the American Cancer Society and the Salvation Army. Lee was a lifelong member of King Street United Brethren Church, having taught Sunday school and having served on many boards and committees.

While he loved his 1967 Chrysler Imperial convertible and playing golf, above all he loved people and will be remembered for his commitment to the community and for his belief and motto, “Friends Make Life Worthwhile.”

Lee is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years, Ruth Aughinbaugh Hartzok, whom he married on November 2, 1946; three children, Jolene McGinley and husband John, Dr. David L. Hartzok and wife Judy, and Alanna Hartzok, all of Chambersburg; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and three siblings, Lorraine Rotz of Fayetteville, Sylva Hoover of Chambersburg, and Ronald Hartzok of Chambersburg.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. The Rev. Paul B. Baker will officiate. Private family interment will follow in Lincoln Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
