M. Josephine Bakner

M. Josephine Bakner, 90, of Marion, PA, went to be with her Lord at 2:05 PM Friday, August 05, 2011 from her home. Born February 27, 1921 in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late Isaac and Ellen Stahl Pheil. She was employed early in her life at the former Stanley Company and later retired from the former Tracy Fashions after 25 years of service. She was a member of The Open Door Church. Josephine enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren and later in life looked forward to outings at Pen-Mar Park. She had a great love for music, especially Big Band and Southern Gospel music and enjoyed dancing when she was young. Her hobbies included sewing and working crossword and jigsaw puzzles. Her beloved husband, Wrenis Bakner, whom she married August 17, 1945, preceded her in death on February 24, 1988.

She is survived by four daughters, Lovella Poe of Chambersburg, Diane Prytherch and husband Albert of Chambersburg, Brenda Freet and companion Bill Swartz of Scotland, and Julie Steinberger of Newville; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. The last of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by seven brothers and five sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, August 9, 2011 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Art Brown will officiate. Interment will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Monday and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
