Mabel Griffith

Mabel Eunice Griffith “Grandma”, age 102 of Fannettsburg, PA; passed away in her home on Sunday, September 25, 2011. Born November 2, 1908 in Ft. Littleton, PA; she was the daughter of the late Bruce Ashton and Mary Hilda Lessig Woollet.

Grandma retired in 1968 from Fairchild Industries in Hagerstown, MD after 30 years of service building airplanes. She was a 1926 graduate of the former Metal Township High School. In Mabel’s younger years, she enjoyed ice skating, horseshoes, sled riding, kickball, and softball. More recently she enjoyed being everyone’s “Grandma” on Mix 95’s Rick and Lisa Morning Show as well as being with family and going to family gatherings; her positive outlook on life and memorable stories will be missed by all.

Surviving is her daughter Alma V. Patterson of York, PA, nine grandchildren, Virginia Cummins of Fannettsburg, PA; Linda Woods of York, PA; Gloria Carlin of Spring Run, PA; Debra Kottcamp of Red Lion, PA; Paula Woods of York, PA; Donna Shoop of Burnt Cabins, PA; Steven Lawver of Virginia Beach, VA; Scott Woods of Orrstown, PA; and Earl Guy Lawver of York, PA, seventeen great grandchildren, and eighteen great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Roy G. Patterson, second husband, Robert L. Griffith, a son, “Buster” Patterson, granddaughter, Barbara Witmer, three brothers, and four sisters.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 29, 2011 at 2 PM at Shady Pine Mennonite Church, 14620 Shady Pine Rd., Willow Hill, PA 17271; where Rev. Marlin A. “Butch” Neil will officiate. The family will receive friends three hours prior to the service in the church. Interment will follow the service in the Lower Path Valley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to Lutheran Home Care and Hospice, please specify that contributions go to Hospice, 2700 Luther Dr., Chambersburg, PA 17202. Arrangements are entrusted to the Agett-Geisel Funeral Home, Dry Run, PA.
