Margaret Eyer

Margaret Eyer, age 79, of Chambersburg, PA passed away on January 24, 2012, at Manor Care Nursing Home. Born in Chambersburg, PA on April 17, 1932, she was the daughter of the late William H. and Kathryn Bowers Deardorff.

Mrs. Eyer worked as a math teacher at James Buchanan High School and the former Penn Hall Junior College in Chambersburg until its closing; after her teaching career she went on to work as the bookkeeper for the Children’s Aid Society in Chambersburg until her retirement. Margaret was an avid Penn State football fan, rarely missing a home football game for many years. She enjoyed reading, knitting, playing cards with friends, and travel. She was a member of the Penn State Alumni Association and the First United Methodist Church.

Surviving is her husband of 57 years, Don Eyer, whom she married on January 31, 1954; her children, Donna L. Eischeid (husband Gene) of Chambersburg, PA; Linda S. Monn (husband Jerry) of Shippensburg, PA; and Nancy J. Kline (husband Stephen) of Berlin, MD; her grandchildren: Scott Martin, Brad Martin, Amanda Peterson, Jason Monn, Erin Brookens, Emily Schramm, and Byron Kline; eleven great-grandchildren; two siblings, James and Theodore Deardorff; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, William Deardoff, Jr.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 31, 2012, from 4-7 PM in the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA. Services and interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the charity of your choice.
