Margaret D. Gsell, 97, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Friday morning, January 21, 2022 due to natural causes in Florida where she had resided for the past year and a half with her daughter Cynthia Appel Shackleton. Born December 27, 1924 in Pennbrook, PA, she was a daughter of the late Harvey and Mary Fenstermacher Clark. She was a 1942 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School and was employed for many years with the US Government where she enjoyed working as an illustrator with NASA. An accomplished artist, Mrs. Gsell was a long-time member and Past President of the Franklin County Art Alliance. She volunteered teaching watercolor painting for many years and also wrote and read poetry which she shared monthly at Menno Haven.
Mrs. Gsell is survived by twin daughters, Cynthia Shackleton of Oxford, Florida and Marcy Kelly of Millsboro, Delaware; a grandson Jayme Block; and two great-granddaughters, Keeley and Sydney Block. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Esther Berg and Dorothy Witter; and her spouses, Elden Appel, Harold Dayton, and Herbert Gsell.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 2, 2022 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Alan Witter will officiate. Interment will follow at Norland Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Wednesday.
