Margaret Hoover

July 30, 1925 — March 4, 2016

Margaret Ann (Spear) Hoover, 90, entered her heavenly home on Friday, March 4, 2016, at the Penn Hall Nursing Center in Chambersburg, PA. Born July 30, 1925, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Russell S. Spear, Sr. and Ethel R. (Clugston) Spear.

Margaret was a 1943, graduate of the former Chambersburg High School. She worked in the Personnel/Payroll Department at Shippensburg University, retiring in 1990. Margaret was a life-long member of First United Methodist Church in Chambersburg, having served 70 years as a member of the Chancel Choir. She also served as a Sunday School teacher in the Primary Department and was a member of the Alda Bower Sunday School Class. Margaret was a former volunteer with the Children’s Release Time Bible Program, the Chambersburg Hospital Auxiliary, and Meals On Wheels.

Her husband, Robert L. Hoover, preceded her in death on April 29, 1991, after 48 years of marriage. Surviving are her four children, Kathryn S. (Stephen) Angle of Carlisle, PA, Julianne (Carl) Walter of Chambersburg, PA, Robert S. (Lisa) Hoover of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Michael E. Hoover of Chambersburg, PA. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Eric (Holly) Hoover, Melanie Hoover, Bryan Hoover, Stephen Angle, and Emily (Gabriel) Gilson, and four great-grandchildren, Woodrow and Eliza Gilson and Matthew and Kelly Hoover. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Russell S. Spear, Jr., and an infant grandson, Peter Angle.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 10, 2016, at 12 noon at the First United Methodist Church, 225 South Second St., Chambersburg, PA, where Rev. Dr. Dianne B. Salter and Rev. Donald Nolder will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow the service in Norland Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 225 S. Second St., Chambersburg, PA 17201.
