Margaret Thatcher

January 25, 1941 — April 18, 2017

Margaret (Peggy) Louise Thatcher, 76, of Chambersburg, passed away on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at Menno Haven. Born on January 25, 1941, in Canton, OH, she was a daughter of the late Elza Sherman Taylor and Hilda Carolyn Bates Taylor.

A retired school teacher and family counselor, she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education with her major in Spanish and minor in both French and English from Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, IL, and her Master’s Degree in Counseling from Kutztown University in Kutztown, PA. Peggy taught Spanish and English at Lansdale Christian Academy in Lansdale, PA, and 7th and 8th grade English at Quakertown Christian School in Quakertown, PA. She was a member of the Christian & Missionary Alliance in Chambersburg. An avid reader, Peggy loved teaching Sunday school, directing choir, playing piano, bowling, singing, cooking, and playing Scrabble and Trivial Pursuit. Most importantly, she loved her Savior, Jesus Christ, and her family.

Peggy is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Carl W. Thatcher, whom she married on June 25, 1966; four children, JoEllen Thatcher of Franklin, TN, Jonathan Thatcher (wife Shanon) of Pendleton, SC, Neil Thatcher (wife Tracy) of Orlando, FL, and Reggie Evers of Horsham, PA; three grandchildren, Nate, Mason, and Taylor Thatcher, all of Orlando; sister-in-law, Marie Taylor of Severn, MD; and her “sister at heart” Lois Billings of Chambersburg. She was preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Taylor of Chambersburg, and her two brothers, Roy and John Taylor of Severn, MD.

Peggy’s funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 22, 2017, at the Christian & Missionary Alliance, 230 Siloam Road, Chambersburg, with Pastor Jeff McCracken and Pastor Dennis Chisholm officiating. Interment will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7-9 PM on Friday, April 21, in the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, and also from 9:00 – 10:00 AM on Saturday in the church. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Menno Haven Benevolent Fund, 2011 Scotland Ave. Chambersburg, PA 17201.
