Marianne Byers

August 29, 1936 — March 5, 2011

Mrs. Marianne Louise Hosler Byers, 74, of 2392 Scotland Road, Chambersburg, died on March 5, 2011 at home surrounded by her family. Born August 29, 1936 in Mechanicsburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late Dorothy Evelyn Deckman Hosler and Melvin George Hosler.

A 1954 graduate of the Chambersburg Area Senior High School, Marianne was a member of the Glee Club and Choristers. Upon graduation she held various clerical positions and part time employment. She was an active member of the Chambersburg First Church of God where she led Junior Church, directed the Junior Choir, and faithfully sang in the Senior Choir for many years. She also took much joy in lovingly helping to create and care for the church’s newly established prayer garden. She was a member of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class.

A member of the Franklin County Art Alliance, Marianne won numerous awards including Best of Show on two occasions. She shared her gift and love of art with youth as she taught a young person’s art class for a number of years.

Marianne is survived by her husband, Robert Dean Byers to whom she was married on August 18, 1956. She is survived by her son Mr. Bruce Dean Byers (married to Tammy Swank Byers), her daughter Donna Lynn (Mrs. Gary Michael), her son Mr. Bradley Melvin Byers (married to Susan Sabich Byers), and her son Robert Douglas Byers (married to Stephanie Ewing Byers). She has eight grandchildren: Amanda Blair Michael (deceased), Danielle Brooke Michael, Shawn Christopher Michael, Seth Bradley Byers, Abigail Faith Byers, Jared Edwin Byers, Josalyn Jean Byers, and Joseph Robert Byers. Marianne is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Darla Frecon and Ms. Susan Hosler. She was dearly loved by all.

A Celebration of Life Service, led by Pastor Earl Mills, will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at Chambersburg First Church of God, 2230 Grand Point Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. The service will begin at 1:00 PM. At the family’s request, there will be no viewing. Visitation with the family will take place at the church one hour prior to the service and immediately following. A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given for the continuation and nurturing of the First Church of God Prayer Garden.
