Marie Craisheff Kanuk, age 83, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Wednesday morning, December 24, 2014 at ManorCare Health Services in Chambersburg. Born, March 19, 1931 in California, PA, she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Mary Boncarosky Craisheff.
A 1949 graduate of California High School, Marie then earned her associates degree in 1951 from Penn Commercial College in Washington, PA. Marie worked as a case worker for the PA Department of Welfare until her retirement in 1991 after 30 years of service. She was a member of St. Mary’s Orthodox Church in Chambersburg, the Red Hat Society, and was active in Polka Charities. She and her husband traveled all over the world visiting many countries and six continents. She was very talented artistically and enjoyed gardening, flower arranging, crafts, and making jewelry.
Marie is survived by her husband of 62 years, John Kanuk, whom she married on August 9, 1952; her daughter, Kathie Lane and husband James of Hershey, PA; and a granddaughter, Lauren Lane of Hershey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald Boncarosky; and a sister Evelyn Bosworth.
A funeral service to honor Marie’s life will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at St. Mary’s Orthodox Church, 2063 Lincoln Way East, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Father Theodore Pulcini will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 PM on Monday, December 29, 2014 at the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.
