Marie McLaughlin

Marie Ewan McLaughlin, age 93, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at Providence Place Assisted Living. Born February 13, 1922 in Chambersburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late James Ewan and Grace Nary Ewan.
A 1941 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School, Mrs. McLaughlin went on to serve her country during WWII in the Women’s Army Corps, serving honorably from 1942 -1945, where she had the opportunity to serve as a chauffer for former first lady Eleanor Roosevelt and the late Helen Keller. She had also been employed at the former H. J. Heinz Company in Chambersburg until its closure in 1981. She was a member of King Street United Brethren Church, AARP, and NARFE. She enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, and knitting.
Surviving are two sons, Jeffrey McLaughlin (wife Charlotte) of Berlin, MD and Joe McLaughlin (wife Beth) of Chambersburg, PA; three grandchildren, Monica McLaughlin, Megan Potter (husband Tim), and Michelle Christian (husband Lee); and three great-grandchildren, Jase and Quinn Potter and Olin Christian. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Leonard E. McLaughlin in 2005, and fourteen siblings.
A Memorial Service to honor Mrs. McLaughlin’s life will be held on Monday, March 16, 2015 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA; where Rev. Lester F. Stine and Rev. Paul B. Baker will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to The Samaritan Fund at King Street Church, 162 East King Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
