Marjorie L. Palmer, 100, of Chambersburg, passed away on February 24, 2025, at Menno Haven Chambers Pointe. Born on December 17, 1924, in Crystal Springs, PA, she was a daughter of the late Ross J. and Marden E. (Bard) Barton. She was the widow of Hayes E. Palmer, who preceded her in death on July 16, 2003.
After skipping both 6th and 7th grade, Marjorie graduated from Warfordsburg High School in 1941. She was first employed as a nanny then took a job at an airplane assembly plant in Baltimore working the night shift during World War II. She later worked for over 30 years as a clerical secretary at Letterkenny Army Depot, retiring in 1983. Marjorie was a member of numerous local organizations years ago, including St. Paul United Methodist Church. She enjoyed volunteering her time with her church making peanut butter eggs, and also with the Chambersburg Hospital and Red Cross.
She is survived by two children, Kenneth H. Palmer of Boiling Springs and Karen Sue Palmer of Villa Hills, KY; two granddaughters, Jennifer of NC, and Sophia of KY; one sister, Faye Hann (husband Walter) of Chambersburg and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Clyde Barton; two sisters, Dorothy Jackson, and Vera Koser; and her daughter-in-law, Sue Palmer.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 1, 2025, in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road Chambersburg, PA 17202. Rev. Dr. A. Robert Cook will officiate. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 9:30 – 10:00 AM prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Red Cross at redcross.org/donate or to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org.
