Mark Melvin Werdebaugh, Sr., 67, of Chambersburg, went home to be with the Lord unexpectedly on Friday, June 9, 2017, at the Chambersburg Hospital. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God throughout his life, ultimately gave him peace. Born on October 18, 1949, in Chambersburg, he was a son of the late Albert Melvin Werdebaugh, Jr. and Mildred Rose Weyer Werdebaugh.
Mark was a 1967 graduate of the Chambersburg Area Senior High School where he set several track records that held for many years. Mark loved God, his family, his country and his many friends with all his heart. He demonstrated his patriotism and went on to serve honorably as a sergeant in the United States Air Force from 1967 to 1971. He worked for the Mechanicsburg Naval Depot for 35 years before retiring in May of 2015. Previously he worked at the former Grove Manufacturing Company for 14 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, antique cars, doing yard work, and attending car and air shows.
Mark was a beloved husband and married his best friend Catherine (Love) Werdebaugh, on April 11, 1969, whom he is survived by. He is also survived by his children, Missy Torzillo (husband Steve) of Chambersburg, Tia Sugden (husband Ron) of Chambersburg, Mark M. Werdebaugh, Jr., of Chambersburg; grandchildren Jessi and Josh Torzillo, Jeremy and Katie Sugden, and Mason Werdebaugh; sister, Christine Hunt of Fayetteville, brothers, Tim Werdebaugh (wife Marcia) of Ft. Loudon, Shaun Werdebaugh (wife Cindy) of St. Thomas, and Troy Werdebaugh of Chambersburg; and his aunt, Pat Kramer (husband Arthur) of Chambersburg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Baby T. And Matthew Torzillo.
Mark was a man of strong faith, believing in the power and strength of Jesus Christ's love and the beauty and peace that would await him after his passing.
A celebration of Mark's life with an Honor Guard will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 16, 2017, at Grace Brethren Church, 315 S. Edwards Ave., Chambersburg, PA, 17201. Pastor John Bayer will officiate. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. If desired, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Grace Brethren Church, at the above address.
