Martha V. Harvey, 92, of Chambersburg, passed away on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born March 2, 1925 in Crosskeys, PA, she was a daughter of the late A. W. Burdge, Sr. and Cora Eaten Burdge. Her husband, Richard W. Harvey, preceded her in death in 2003.
Martha was employed as a press operator at the Stanley Co. in Chambersburg for 17 years. She was a life member of both the AmVets Post 224 and the VFW Post 1599 Women’s Auxiliaries. She enjoyed Elvis Presley, collecting tiger memorabilia, growing flowers, and having tea parties with her great granddaughter.
She is survived by two children, Linda K. Haulman of Chambersburg, and Charles R. Harvey of St. Thomas; four grandchildren, Kevin Haulman (Robin) of Chambersburg, Kurtis Haulman of Chambersburg, Charles W. Harvey of Hagerstown, MD, and Chandra Harvey (Bud Shaefer) of Shippensburg; her great-granddaughter, Samantha Haulman; and four siblings, Theron Burdge of Ickesburg, Lorraine Henry of Mifflintown, A. W. Burdge, Jr. of Chambersburg, and Leslie Burdge of Lewistown. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two siblings, Maryetta Stimeling and David Burdge.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at Salem Cemetery. Rev. Paul B. Baker will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Purple Heart Service Foundation, Inc., P.O. Box 49 Annendale, VA, 22003, or to a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are entrusted to Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA.
