Mary Lucille “Lucy” Armel, age 82, peacefully entered to Kingdom of God on Sunday, September 20, 2015, with her children by her side at the Village of Laurel Run, where she had been a resident. Born February 23, 1933, in Greene Township, she was the daughter of the late Blair N. and Carrie E. Barton.
Mrs. Armel was a 1951 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School. She was a homemaker most of her adult life. She is a member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church, where she had served on numerous church committees and taught Sunday School, Junior Church, and Vacation Bible School. She enjoyed camping with family and attending events involving her grandchildren.
Surviving are four children, Tammy Sue Mickey (husband Richard) of Marion, PA; Cara Lou Sheaffer (husband Dewey) of Chambersburg, PA; Johnnie Gene Armel (wife Maria ) of Raleigh, NC; and Richard Lynn Armel of Mercersburg, PA; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Francis E. “Red” Armel in April 2015.
A memorial visitation to honor Mary’s life will be held on Monday, September 21, 2015 from 6 – 8 PM at Park Ave. United Methodist Church, 1140 Edgar Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201. Inurnment will be private at a later date in the church columbarium. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to the above church and address.
