Mary Armstrong Herr

October 12, 1927 — September 6, 2014

Mary Grace Armstrong Herr, age 86, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Saturday evening, September 6, 2014 at The Inn at Luther Ridge. Born October 12, 1927 in Ft. Loudon, she was a daughter of the late Calvin McLaughlin and Grace Fields McLaughlin.

Early in her life, Mrs. Herr worked as a file clerk at Letterkenny Army Depot. She then stayed home to raise her three children. She retired from Chambersburg Area School District in 1986 where she worked in the cafeteria for 15 years. She was a member of Solomon’s Evangelical Lutheran Church where she was a member and past president of the Evangelical Lutheran Church Women. Mrs. Herr was a member of the Charles M. Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 Ladies Auxiliary, the BPO Elks 600 Ladies Auxiliary, and AARP. She enjoyed volunteering at Chambersburg Hospital, sewing, knitting, cooking, collecting music boxes, playing bingo, and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by three children, Cynthia A. Tweedy and husband David L. of Chambersburg, Kimberly S. Keith of Harrisburg, and Tina M. Sanders and husband Kenneth E. of Chambersburg; six grandchildren, Timothy D. Tweedy of Chambersburg, Amanda G. Tweedy of Chambersburg, Brandon R. Keith of San Diego, CA, Jackson D. Keith of Mechanicsburg, Nicholas J. Keith of Harrisburg, and Andrew J. Sanders of Chambersburg; her sister, Shirley Meckley of Hamburg, NY; three step children; four step grandchildren; and four step great-grandchildren. Aside from her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, Jack Armstrong who passed away on June 28, 1985; her second husband R. Rogers Herr who passed away on November 21, 2008; and her sister, Annabelle Love.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 13, 2014 in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Bill Nienstedt will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Grindstone Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 12, 2014 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Franklin/Fulton Division, 1019 Mumma Road, Wormleysburg, PA 17043.
