Mary Lou Benedick, 82, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Friday, January 18, 2019, at Chambers Pointe Health Care Center. Born June 27, 1936, in Chambersburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late Stanley A. Sr. and Adeline Long Cordell.
Mary Lou was a 1954 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School. She worked as a book keeper for James River in Chambersburg for decades, retiring in 1995. She was also a member of the Business Professional Women’s Club, as well as the Coca-Cola Collectors Club. Mary Lou was a member at Calvary United Methodist Church in Fayetteville, PA, where she also spent many years volunteering for various functions within the church. She also volunteered for the Grove Family Library in Chambersburg and on the local election board.
Mary Lou is survived by her husband, Donald E. Benedick, whom she married on October 16, 1954; her sons, D. Gary Benedick (wife Anne Marie), of Fayetteville, and Van D. Benedick (partner Barry Kline) of Reading, PA; 2 grandchildren, Darren G. Benedick (wife Melinda), of Fayetteville, PA, and Ashley M. Hazenstab (husband Dennis), of Annapolis, MD; and 2 great-grandchildren, Deegan and Daxton Benedick; and one brother, Stanley A. Cordell Jr (wife Joyce), of Lemasters, PA.
A memorial service in Mary Lou’s honor will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2019, at 10:00 AM at Calvary United Methodist Church, 150 Norlo Dr., Fayetteville, PA 17222, where Rev. Suzanne Elliott will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are entrusted to Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA. As per her wishes, Mary Lou’s body was donated to medical research through the Humanity Gift Registry, Philadelphia, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Grove Family Library Memorial Fund, 101 Ragged Edge Rd., Chambersburg, PA 17202.
