Mary Byron

August 16, 1928 — February 18, 2016

Mary M. Byron, age 87, of 830 F Menno Village, Chambersburg and formerly of 80 Obsidian Drive, died Thursday, February 18, 2016. Born August 16, 1928, in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late J. Wallace and Pauline Sites Michaels.

Her husband, Harold W. Byron II, died December 23, 1979.

Mary retired in 1983 from the former Valley Bank in Chambersburg. Prior to working at the bank, she had been employed by the Franklin County Commissioners, The Little Shop in Chambersburg, and as Secretary to the President of the former Penn Hall Junior College and Preparatory School. She was a member of Zion Reformed United Church of Christ in Chambersburg. She served as a volunteer with the Chambersburg Hospital Auxiliary, was a member of the American Business Women’s Association, the Menno Haven Auxiliary, AARP # 1313, and the Ladies Auxiliary of Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW, all in Chambersburg. She enjoyed golf and travel. She had served as an accompanist for over twenty years at the former St. Paul’s UCC in Williamson and as an accompanist for the Chambersburg Community Male Chorus, under the direction of the late Clarence E. Tarner, Jr.

Mary is survived by three nieces, Candace A. Cook of Chambersburg, Carla S. Haller of St. Thomas, and Donna K. Ericson of Chambersburg, and a nephew, Tyrone C. Snider, of Mercersburg. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Jean D. Snider and infant sister, Doris Michaels and one brother, Donald W. Michaels. Graveside Services under the direction of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA will be private in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, by the Rev. Jeffrey R. Diller. Memorial Contributions may be made to Zion Reformed Church, 259 South Main Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
