Mary Christine “Chris” (Munger) Mostofi, 79, of Chambersburg, PA passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born June 3, 1944 in Watertown, NY she was the daughter of the late Orville C. and Mary Louise (Zahn) Munger.
She graduated from Carthage Central High School in Carthage, New York in 1962. Chris then pursued a degree in teaching from Elmira College, graduating in 1966. After her graduation from Elmira she started her teaching career in Laurel, Maryland. She then attended graduate school at the University of Virginia, earning a masters degree in education in 1971. After graduation, Chris taught in Charlottesville for five years before relocating with her husband, Keith to Chambersburg in the summer of 1976. Chris then began an over 40-year tenure with Chambersburg Public Schools, first teaching high school, transitioning to Elementary school, then culminating with her role as a Regional Principal from 1987 until her retirement in 2007.
Chris was active in her retirement, enjoying countless days at her backyard pool where many friends and family would enjoy the relaxing water and an even more accommodating hostess. She loved reading and was an active participant in her book club and with the Coyle Free Library’s Afternoon Club. She adored her two grandchildren, Addison and Alec, spending hours playing games, reading, cooking, baking, and talking with them. Chris will be sorely missed by a number of close friends who provided her with an extended family in Chambersburg.
She is survived by her son, David Keshvar Mostofi and his wife Tabitha Bailey of Chevy Chase, MD and two grandchildren, Addison Bailey Mostofi and Alec Keshvar Mostofi. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Keith Mostofi who passed away June 26, 2022 and a brother, Orville Z. Munger.
A memorial service will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, November 16, 2023 at the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202 with Pastor Barbara Barry officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at 12:00 PM Thursday afternoon in the funeral home.
