Mary Jane College, 87, a resident of The Shook Home in Chambersburg, PA for the past four years, passed away Sunday evening, June 28, 2015 in the Chambersburg Hospital. Born February 17, 1928 in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late J. Roland and Janet Hassler College. Early in her life, Mary Jane had been employed in the dietary department at the former Piney Mountain Home and at Menno Haven. She worked as a receptionist at The Shook Home in Chambersburg for 25 years, retiring in 1999. She was a long-time and faithful member of the Chambersburg Bible Church where she was a member of the Berean Sunday School Class and helped with the Awana Club, Vacation Bible School, and the Good News Club. She enjoyed volunteering with the Bible Release program and she loved gardening, cooking, and canning.
She is survived by two sisters, Helen College of Fayetteville and Nancy College of Chambersburg; two brothers, Joseph H. College and wife Marion and Roy College and wife Joanna, all of Chambersburg; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, William E. College on January 1, 2015.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at the Chambersburg Bible Church, Chambersburg, PA. Pastor Gary Yoder will officiate. Interment will follow at Grindstone Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church.
